Italy: Sorrento, Positano, Lucca

Almost a year later… I’m finally posting a few photos from my Italy trip with Lisa. I have a ton more of other exotic locations – but this is enough for tonight.

SPECIAL FEATURE: Edwardscom launches 3 new sites

All with easy to use CMS (Customer Management Systems), endless upgradeability, internal and external (client) interaction, password protection as needed and more.

Leadership-Initiatives.com

Leader Initiatives is a start-up that offers training in supervisory skills. The web site needs to be updated constantly with new course materials, course locations and times, e-commerce payment and so forth. Its imperative to have a user-friendly interface for my client to add and edit certain pages himself. The site is part of an entire branding campaign that includes logo, slogan, website, business cards, course material covers and direct mail.

Aircraft Welding.com

I designed Aircraft Welding’s original site nearly 10 years ago. A lot has changed over those years and the site was well overdue for updating – as was the logo. The new logo is a careful balance of nostalgia and contemporary. Same can be said for the site itself. Aircraft Welding has a long, proud history and I was careful to keep one foot in it as I updated this site that has increased SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and an easy to use CMS so the client can add Press Releases on a regular basis. It also encourages feedback and testimonials from clients.

DBScommunications.net

Another site that I originally designed years ago (see below) as well as their logo. DBS asked for what most people ask for today, “A site that we can easily update and add to ourselves and also has the ability to communicate back and forth with clientele”. The site has that and more.

Off to Chicago

Every once in a while, my career throws a nice perk at me. One of my oldest clients, JP Horizons, asked me to help out with a motivational event that will take place in Millennium Park in downtown Chicago.
The 2-day event has turned into a 5-day vacation for my girlfriend and I (OK, I do have to do some work as well… and make sure that I represent my client appropriately) at the gorgeous 5 star Blackstone Hotel.

More rain…

Being creative in the midst of all this gloomy weather gets very challenging.

Save this country

Well, that headline apparently will put everyone to sleep. Why isn’t everyone broadcasting on every blog, Facebook page and phone line to PUT AN END TO LOBBYISTS AND CAMPAIGN FUNDING? This legalized bribery is exactly why us common folk are absolutely screwed today. No one in Washington will address this until there’s complete non-tolerance for it across this country – because they’re getting their pockets lined by them. PLEASE educate people.

In memorium to my friend

Bowser 2/14/97 – 2/22/11

I was asked by Marilyn’s Voice, a dog shelter that I’ve done some pro bono work for, to write a short something about my late, beloved dog, Bowser. I wrote the following:
Bowser EdwardsBowser Edwards

I got Bowser from the Cleveland APL when he was about 6 weeks old. He was a wolfish mix; his litter found in an abandoned building downtown. I spent the next 8 years trying to domesticate him – to make him heel when we walked, to not hunt squirrels and cats and other such things that undomesticated animals instinctually do. I read books on this and tried to teach him so much. He seemed to understand nearly everything I said, but did his own thing his own way regardless.

Around his eighth birthday, I had the sudden realization that we were on the back end of his life and that I was going to accept him just as he was – I wasn’t going to try to train him anymore and I would enjoy each remaining day that I had with him. That day was the beginning of the most beautiful relationship that I can imagine. We both began to transform. I always had unconditional love from him, but he didn’t from me until that day.

Bowser taught me far more than I ever taught him.

He went peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, February 22, 2011. I’ll always love and miss him.

President, Michael Victor was quoted as saying, “This is the best magazine that the College has ever produced.”

Lake Erie College Alumni Magazine by Barry Edwards, Edwards Communications

SPECIAL FEATURE Lake Erie College Alumni Magazine

Edwards Communications was recently contracted to re-design the Lake Erie College Alumni Magazine – a 52-page flagship magazine that is important in the relationship between LEC and its donors. It was even more important in its role in LEC’s branding, which has been undergoing modifications recently. This was a tight collaboration between Edwards Communications and Lake Erie College’s marketing staff.

There’s no such thing as “Just” a business card

Edwards Communications business card design

Your business card is one of the most important aspects of your branding as it is often the first impression of your company.

Its hard to make up for a bad first impression.

This business card for Leadership Initiatives is a crucial part of this branding campaign that has included the company name, slogan, logo, website (www.leadership-initiatives.com), business card and workbooks.

My business cards often utilize the back as a “mini magazine ad”. These days most of us have businesses that require more than a name and title to describe how we differentiate from our competition.

Aircraft Logo final

A few people have inquired – and I certainly should be polite enough to follow up with those who have been kind enough to give me feedback – so the final, approved logo for Aircraft is a variation of #3. I was preferring #1 myself, but they really wanted a version of #3 and after a bit of reworking, I have to say, I’m completely happy with it! Now its onto redesigning their website.

Design processes and life fodder

I like to hold "design contests" in which I ask readers to vote on various designs that I'm working on. Its fun and provides my client with important feedback. I also like to discuss metaphysical topics – life purposes, leadership, relationship topics and such.
